The 2012 Wooly Bear Catipillar Obama / Romney Debate

In years past, a collection of the Wooly Bear caterpillar was done for forecasting the winter months ahead.  And over the years this effort had met with some reasonable success.

This year, along with the normal evaluations made from color, size of bands and such a debate of sorts was conducted between two specimen that was moderated by Mo and Mona Tiki.

For those not familiar with Mo and Mona, the Tiki’s are a Tiki figurine purchased in a second-hand furniture store, carved from a hardwood that represent respect as the elders are watching.  Also the Tiki’s were part of the summer of 2012 exploits and vicarious observers of societal cultural social web Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

For the purposes of this debate and because the participants are not able to speak, items that represented issues were placed between the two candidates with observations made in movement.

The items used: 1922 Liberty Peace silver dollar (Economy), condom (Reproduction and Abortion), thimble of oil (Middle East), picture of Osama bin Laden (Terrorism), plastic fence (Immigration) and a borrowed Independence Card (Welfare).

As each item was placed in the middle of the stage under the watchful eye of Moderators Mo and Mona Tiki evaluations were made in movements which included towards and away.  Additionally crawling over and around each issues and falling off the stage (shoe box) onto the floor was made.  Each was based on a 2 minutes answer with 1 minute allowed for rebuttal.

Now, to the results…

Economy: Romney’s initial moved was towards the Silver dollar but then turned way and crawled over towards the Obama side and continued off to the right edge of the box.  Obama made a 180° turn and went straight off the back edge of the stage.  In rebuttal both moved straight forward and fell off the stage onto the floor.

Abortion: Romney did a complete circle then crawled toward the front of the stage, straddled the edge and then fell off the stage onto the floor.  Obama waited for about a minute then moved aggressively towards the condom, coming to a stop that barely touched the edge of the condoms wrapper .  In rebuttal both moved towards the condom with Obama  stopping short of touching, then turned, waited for about 20 seconds then crawled over the condom and stopped in front of the Romney name placard.  Romney crawled straight forward, off the edge of the stage onto the floor.

Middle East:  Obama made a quick move to the right then veered towards the back of the stage where upon reaching the edge crawled along the edge towards the back and around stopping in the middle directly in front of the Tiki’s.  Romney moved towards the thimble raised up as to look around then made a 180° and crawled off the back edge of the stage.  In rebuttal both crawled off the front of the stage and fell onto the floor.

Terrorism: Obama moved quickly away from the picture but then stopped, raised up, looked at his name placard then moved straight toward the Romney placard stopping at the base.  Romney moved towards the picture crawled straight across Osama’s face and continued straight ahead falling off the right side of the stage.  In rebuttal Obama circled around the bottom of the picture then straight up through the middle stopping at the top.  Romney moved towards the picture but then stopped, waited about 15 seconds and then crawled onto the photo stopping on the AK-47.

Immigration:  Both were curious about the plastic fence, rearing up and touching the top. Obama crawled along the base around to the Romney side and then went up and over to the other side, then crawled forward and off the stage.  Romney crawled to the back edge of the fence then went up the back edge and on top stopping near the middle.  In rebuttal Obama crawled forward straight and went off the stage while Romney’s rebuttal started with a slow crawl towards the fence that stopped at the base.

Welfare:  Obama moved quickly towards the Independence Card but then stopped for a moment, did a 360° turn and crawled diagonal across the card towards the Romney side.  When reaching the edge of the card a slowed crawl along the edge that stopped at the bottom middle.  Romney made a quick left turn then crawled off the left side of the stage.  Rebuttal Obama made a 180° turn, stopped, made another 180° and then crawled off the front of the stage and falling onto the floor.  Romney made a 180° and crawled towards and onto his name placard, stood atop and raised up looking around and then fell off.
